2025 Scholarship Application Results

The application and evaluation process for the 7th The Ai Ling Guan Memorial Scholarship has been successfully completed. In 2025, a total of 66 applications were received, a significant increase from 16 valid applications in 2024. We sincerely thank everyone for their continued strong interest in this scholarship.

This year’s applicants came from:

  • 29 U.S. states, none from Canada
  • 15 applicants from California
  • Over 10 full-time Chinese language teachers (ranging from elementary school to university level)
  • The majority began teaching Chinese after 2018

The mission of this scholarship is to encourage Chinese language educators in the U.S. and Canada to dedicate their talent and passion to overcoming challenges and promoting Chinese language and culture in various ways. Based on the long-standing selection guidelines, the scholarship committee carefully reviewed all 66 applications and selected the following three recipients of the scholarship for 2025. Each will receive a $1,000 award in recognition of their contributions and leadership in establishing, promoting, and applying Chinese culture.

Award Recipients:

  • Nina Li, Century Chinese School, Massachusetts
    Key achievements:
    • 31 years of experience in Chinese language education in the U.S.
    • Chair of the school’s board of directors
    • Co-author of a two-volume Chinese learning storybook
    • Donor supporting teaching efforts
  • Yanmei Wang, Private Tutor/Social Worker, New Jersey
    Key achievements:
    • The only member of New Jersey Asian American and Pacific Islander Commission with a mainland China background
    • Former city council candidate
    • Board member of a local Chinese school
    • Plans to write and direct a second bilingual stage play, Li Qingzhao
  • Jinhui Yu, Immersion Program Teacher at William Elementary School, Sacramento, California
    Key achievements:
    • Designed curriculum and content for a K–6 immersion program
    • Selected for several fellowship nominations
    • Member of the Jinan–Sacramento Sister Cities Committee
    • Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in education-related studies
