We are now in the fifth year of the Guan Ai Ling Chinese Education Scholarship. The COVID-19 pandemic has passed and many of us are returning to our previous lives and opportunities. Although we saw fewer applications this year, each one received was still of the highest quality. The scholarship management team would like to personally thank each applicant, recommender, and their supporting parents and teachers.
Nearly 40 applicants participated from a diverse range of geographies, learning methods, family environments, and age:
● 60% of applicants were students and 40% were educators.
● Applicants come from 13 US states and Canada.
● Student applicants range from grades 6 to 12.
● Some student applicants come from non-Chinese families.
● Student applicants engage in a variety of learning methods including weekend Chinese schools, high school foreign language classes, and private lessons.
● The majority of students study a 3rd language in addition to English and Chinese.
● Educator applicants engage in a variety of teaching methods including private lessons, weekend Chinese schools, and public and private high school classes.
The purpose of this scholarship is find and encourage applicants to overcome challenges, to study and apply diligently, and to spread Chinese culture. The team has reviewed all applications and selected the following winners of the 2023 Guan Ai Ling Chinese Education Scholarship:
14 students, each with a $500 scholarship

3 educators, each with a $1,000 scholarship
